Top 10 Quickbooks Problems

Quickbooks problems: Not so much a quickbooks for dummies, but our free quickbooks tutorial includes the top 10 problems that beginners and seasoned users normally get. The solution that you will see here is the most common solution that resolved the problem.

  1. Error 1619: There was a problem installing Flash Player.

    These quickbooks problems happen when doing an installation and you cannot complete it because it cannot install the Flash Player. The solution below is also applicable to any installation problem that it will not complete to install Quickbooks.

    You can try installing using the msi file. See steps below:
    Run the install from the QuickBooks.msi file

    1. The QuickBooks Installation CD should still be in the Drive from your initial installation attempt. If not put the Installation disk in the drive and again and click the Cancel button to end the installation.
    2. Open My Computer, either from your desktop or the Start Menu.
    3. Right click on the drive with the QuickBooks installation disk and choose Open.
    4. Double click to open the QBooks folder.
    5. Double click on the QuickBooks.msi file to run it.(You may only see QuickBooks and not the '.msi' if your file extension options are turned off. You will recognize the file because the Type is a Windows Installer Package.)
    6. Follow the steps displayed to install QuickBooks.

  2. Error: -6144, -301 when opening a company file.

    These quickbooks problems appear when trying to open the Quickbooks company file. This error means your company file is already damaged and you have to restore your most recent backup or have your company file fix by the Data Services team of Intuit.

  3. Error 3371: Could not initialize license properties.

    This is one of the Quickbooks problems that appear when you try to register or open Quickbooks. You might receive different error message but it has the same error code which is Error 3371. If you get this error, you can reset the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file. Below are the steps:
    1. Be sure that you are logged in as the Windows administrator on your computer.
    2. Click the Windows Start button and choose Run.
    3. In the Open field, enter the appropriate command for your version of QuickBooks:

      QuickBooks 2011

      • Windows 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0
      • Windows XP: C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0

      QuickBooks 2010

      • Windows 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient\v6.0
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0

      QuickBooks 2009

      • Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient\v5
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v5

      QuickBooks 2008

      • Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient\v5
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v5

      QuickBooks 2007

      • Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v3

    1. Click OK.
    2. If the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file is missing, skip to step 7.
    3. If you see the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file, delete it.
      Note: QuickBooks automatically re-creates the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file when you open QuickBooks.
    4. Open QuickBooks and try to register by choosing Help>Register QuickBooks>Begin Registration.

  1. Error 1306 when updating Quickbooks.

    These quickbooks problems occurs when trying to update Quickbooks. It may also include the following message “Another application has exclusive access to [filename]”. To fix this restart your computer then run the update again. If same problem occurs, you must repair your Quickbooks. See the steps below to repair Quickbooks.

    1. Exit QuickBooks
    2. Perform Reboot.bat.
    3. Restart your computer, and then restart QuickBooks.
    4. If the error still occurs, try to repair your existing QuickBooks installation.
    5. If the message persists, perform a clean uninstall.

  2. Error 1606: Could not access network location.

    This is one of the Quickbooks problems that happens when installing Quickbooks. This can occur when windows user account is damaged, the network location listed in the error is unavailable. To resolve this install Quickbooks using the Admin user account.

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Use the Windows Admin username and password to sign in to your computer.
    3. Try to install Quickbooks again.

  3. Error -6098, 5 when switching hosting modes.

    These quickbooks problems happen when attempting to switch hosting modes using Microsoft Windows Vista. To resolve this download the most current release of your program.

  4. Error H101, H202, H303, or H505 when opening your company file.

    You get this error when you try to open your company file. To resolve this make sure to only have one computer set to host. Turn off the hosting on all computers and turn it on for just one computer.

    1. Open Quickbooks and choose File > Utilities.
    2. If you see Host Multi-User Access on the list, this computer is not hosting the company file and you can go to the next computer.
    3. If you see Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, select that option > then click Yes to confirm > In the Company File Must Be Closed window, click Yes.
    4. Restart this computer while you repeat this process for the next computer.
    5. Once everything is turned off, turn on the hosting on the computer that you designate as the server.

  5. The name of the list element cannot be blank.

    This is the message that you get when you try to do a CSV Import. This means that a required or mandatory field is left blank. If you are for example importing Customers & Jobs list, the Customer or Job name is left blank. To solve this, you have to enter the Name for the Customer or Job in your CSV file.

  6. This field contains more text that is allowed.

    This message appears in a CSV Import error log. There are fields that have character limit. If the data in your .xls or csv field is greater than the character limit allowed this error will appear. To fix this, make sure that your data does not exceed the character limit. You can refer to Quickbooks help topic about preparing your data for import.

  • Income Account: The specified Account does not exist in the list.

    This message appears in CSV error log when you’re doing an import in Quickbooks. This error means that the income account that you selected on an item you are importing has not been created in Quickbooks yet. To resolve this, add the specified account to your chart of accounts then do the import again.
